Mixed Reality provides a hybrid interactive system merging of real world and virtual environment for virtual-real collaboration. The intuitive merging and the real-time interaction processes are required for most Mixed Reality systems. This paper describes a Mixed Reality Toolkit with several realtime image processing algorithms. We use an inexpensive web camera to capture real world, and detect the necessary saliency information from the captured images, such as foreground and hand pixels. These detection methods are implemented using graphic processing unit (GPU) programming in order to realize real-time approach. Using these methods, we developed several natural user interface applications. The implementation results confirm that the algorithms in our developed Mixed Reality Toolkit operate in real time and the synthetic visualizations are intuitive. |
