One of the major sources of visual discomfort in stereoscopic 3D display is the vergence-accommodation mismatch. In order to alleviate such a mismatch, one can place a region-of-interest (RoI) object to a display panel such that at least a visually attentive region does not cause visual discomfort. However, if there are depth variations inside the RoI object, it is not clear where to place the object. In this letter, we perform an experiment using synthetic images to find out which displayed position is comfortable for the human eye. Experimental results demonstrate that the subjects tend to prefer the position in which the pixels of the RoI object are located dominantly either in front of or behind the display panel. |
