In 3D environment reconstruction and remote vehicle control systems, 3D LiDAR points are divided into ground points and non-ground points; the ground points constitute the ground mesh. The state-of-the-art ground extraction algorithm can divide points into wrong groups, causing some non-ground points being divided into ground points. The imperfection of ground extraction algorithm results in ground irregularities. Therefore, a ground smoothing method using a median filter is proposed in this study to reduce the impact of misclassification. The main contribution of this study is that the proposed method can reduce the ground irregularities in an efficient way by parallel computing and can obtain a reasonable reconstructed ground mesh. |
