A mobile vehicle mounted with multiple sensors is used to rapidly collect 3D point clouds and video images so as to allow accurate terrain modeling. In this study, we develop an intuitive ground surface reconstruction system with a terrain texture mesh. We quantize the sensed 3D point clouds into regular 3D grids. Subsequently, we integrate the grids into a node-based terrain mesh and map the triangles in the terrain mesh onto the captured video images.
